Texas Rangers vs Detroit Tigers

Just one sentence: boring, more boring, baseball…

After we had seen basketball and icehockey games, we finally saw a baseball game in Detroit on May 19th.
The weather was awesome and the stadium of the tigers is awesome as well.

In addition to the game: The atmosphere was very low and the game very boring. We only saw 4 points (no home-run) and at the end the Tigers won 4:0.

There’s a soccer tournament at Kettering and of course the Germans don’t wanna miss that.

In the preliminary we played against ‘International United’ (won 2:1) – a mixed team with other international students (e.g. from Jamaica, Malaysia) – , ‘Alpha Unit’ (won 4:1) – another mixed team – and against Delta Teta Delta (won 5:0) – a fraternity at Kettering -.
We are now in the playoffs, so let’s see what we get…

Here’s a Video from our celebration after the first game.

On May 17th we invited Heidi and Beckie from the International Office of Kettering for a German dinner.
At Eastersunday Beckie had invited us for a typical American dinner and so it was our turn to do the same for her.

Together with Ulle our apartment cooked handmade ‘Spaetzle’ with ‘Schnitzle’.

Anaheim Ducks vs Detroit Red Wings again (7th game)

Nico:

DSCI0057

Cause the Ducks tied the series up to 3:3, there was a 7th and deciding game in Detroit. Ulle and I decided to go to this important match. We had nearly similar seats to the last game.

The game itself was very exciting and much more interesting than the last time. The Red Wings had to defend with three players against 5 Ducks two times and caught no goal. In the last period the Ducks tied the game but the Wings shot the deciding goal 3 minutes before the end. After that there was a huge party in Detroit and a lot of convoys.

Now the Red Wings are playing against Chicago Blackhawks in the final of the Western Conference.
The final of the Easter Conference is Pittsburgh Penguins versus Carolina Hurricanes.

Homecoming week at Kettering

Homecoming, welcoming back of former residents and alumni, is a tradition in many universities, colleges and high schools in North America. It usually includes activities for students and alumni, such as sports and culture events and a parade through the streets of the city or town.

Anaheim Ducks vs Detroit Red Wings

Yes, we are still alive 🙂

The reason our blog stagnated is simple: Usual study life caught us and we are very busy at the moment. We have a lot of projects to do.

Furthermore nothing special happened except of our first NHL (National Hockey League) game of our life.

The Detroit Red Wings came into the Playoffs and this was a great chance to see a game. We saw the first game of maybe 7 (the tourney is Best-Of-7, that means that a team have to win 4 games to come into next round) in the semifinal of the Western Conference against the Anaheim Ducks.

In comparison with the basketball game there is more flow in the game and not so many breaks and interrupts.
And of course it is very physically played, we posted some links from rough scenes below.
Also the atmosphere was much better. Could be up to the very close and exciting game. The final goal (3:2 for the Wings) was shot in the very last minute.

Chicago

dsc_5000dsc_5002

Last weekend we (our apartment) made our first longer trip. We started at  Friday midday to Chicago and stayed in Holiday Inn for two nights.  We arrived at Friday evening, so we just went to a club called ‘Soundbar’ after we checked in. It was a cool club. At Saturday we did sight seeing. We went on top of the Sears Tower (currently, the Sears Tower is the tallest skyscraper in the United States and the fourth-tallest freestanding structure in the world –> 1,450.58 ft (442m)), the Buckingham fountain (you will know this from Al Bundy), the Navy Pier and the Millenium Park.
At Sunday morning we ate a great pepperoni pizza in Little Italy, before we drove back home.
It was a short but awesome trip.

Our real new ride

Here is a picture from our ride. We already bought it on the first week in Flint, but the weather was too bad to make some pictures earlier. Actually the car belongs to our apartment and Cako, another guy from Germany.

It is a Mercury Villager in green and has place for seven people.
Unfortunately it ‘drinks’ very much 🙂

On last Monday I enrolled myself on the Cliffhangers Club. They usually go climbing twice a week.
One day after, I climbed for the first time in a climbing hall in Pontiac (1 hour away from Flint).
