Chicago

Last weekend we (our apartment) made our first longer trip. We started atΒ  Friday midday to Chicago and stayed in Holiday Inn for two nights.Β  We arrived at Friday evening, so we just went to a club called ‘Soundbar’ after we checked in. It was a cool club. At Saturday we did sight seeing. We went on top of the Sears Tower (currently, the Sears Tower is the tallest skyscraper in the United States and the fourth-tallest freestanding structure in the world –> 1,450.58Β ft (442m)), the Buckingham fountain (you will know this from Al Bundy), the Navy Pier and the Millenium Park.
At Sunday morning we ate a great pepperoni pizza in Little Italy, before we drove back home.
It was a short but awesome trip.

Our real new ride

Here is a picture from our ride. We already bought it on the first week in Flint, but the weather was too bad to make some pictures earlier. Actually the car belongs to our apartment and Cako, another guy from Germany.

It is a Mercury Villager in green and has place for seven people.
Unfortunately it ‘drinks’ very much πŸ™‚

On last Monday I enrolled myself on the Cliffhangers Club. They usually go climbing twice a week.
One day after, I climbed for the first time in a climbing hall in Pontiac (1 hour away from Flint).

Detroit Pistons vs Chicago Bulls

Nico:

Last Monday a few guys and me went spontaneously to another NBA game to Detroit.
Although there weren’t that much points like at the game in NY it was exciting as well.
The game was decided in the last 30 seconds and the Bulls won 91:88.

1st day in Campus Village

dsc_4357

Campus Village is a residential home for Kettering students. Estimated 250 students live there and it`s a really nice home. We live in a apartment with Ben, Frieder (another student of Reutlingen University) and Xee, a girl from California. After our arriving at Friday, we brought Hagen to the Bishop Airport in Flint and said good-bye to him. Because we needed some food and other stuff for our new home we went to WallMart for shopping the whole afternoon.
At the evening we invited all the Germans and some Americans to our apartment. It was really great and we did party all night long.
This was a really awesome first day in our new home and now everybody knows, where the party-apartment in Campus Village is πŸ™‚
So we hope that our terms goes on like this…

Living in Thompson Hall / Orientation week

Academic Building of Kettering

Academic Building of Kettering

The first days in Flint we had to stay in Thompson Hall before we could move to our apartment in Campus Village. In the Thomson Hall usually stay the freshmen of Kettering. But because of the spring break, it was not booked up and the new international students could stay there for almost a week. In this time we met many Germans and also some American and Jamaican students. The living in the rooms was not quite comfortable, all the more was the common room with 2 big flat screens and paddles. We also played a lot of ping pong and billiard.

We also met a German Student called Hagen, who left Flint at Friday. He lived in a house near the campus, so we went almost every night to Hagen to do party and play Beer-Pong, which is a very funny game πŸ™‚ Hagen also showed us some nice places in Flint, for example the “Birch Run”, an outlet store, where you can buy clothes for cheap. In this time we also bought a car. It`s a Mercury Villager and a really nice ride. In the near future we’ll show you some pictures.

On Monday we had our first lesson in ‘Written and Oral Communication’. It was quite short, our teacher Mrs. Campbell just introduced herself and gave us some homework for the next Monday.
The staff from the International Office – Heidi and Becky – gave us a tour through Kettering and some advices.
We also got a security introduction from the Campus Safety officer and a police officer from Flint.

The short time living in Thomson Hall was very cool, but we were very happy when we could move to Campus Village, beacause this move means the beginning of the real study life in Flint.
